In a historic moment for the New Orleans Saints, Alvin Kamara etched his name even deeper into the franchise’s legacy by becoming the all-time leading rusher. During the Saints’ Week 10 clash against their fierce division rival, the Atlanta Falcons, Kamara surpassed Mark Ingram II’s previous record of 6,500 rushing yards. Kamara, needing just 12 yards to break the record, did so with a 7-yard run in the first quarter on his second carry.
This achievement adds yet another accolade to Kamara’s impressive career, which already includes being the franchise leader in touchdowns (85), rushing touchdowns (60), and all-purpose yards (11,739). Despite already being a Saints legend, Kamara’s latest milestone further solidifies his status as the greatest running back in the team’s history.
Mark Ingram, the former record holder, was one of the first to celebrate Kamara’s achievement, praising his durability, versatility, and relentless work ethic. Kamara, who was drafted in the third round in 2017, has been a consistent force for the Saints. This season alone, he’s rushed for 660 yards and six touchdowns, while also contributing significantly to the passing game with 367 receiving yards.
Known for his dynamic playing style and ability to make plays from multiple positions on the field, Kamara has set the gold standard for what it means to be a dual-threat running back in today’s NFL. With multiple Pro Bowl selections, two All-Pro honors, and a record-tying six-touchdown performance against Minnesota in 2020, Kamara’s legacy as the Saints’ all-time best running back is now unquestionably cemented.
