According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Detroit Lions and Aidan Hutchinson have agreed to a four-year extension. Hutchinson missed most of the 2024 season due to an injury but has not missed a beat since returning. Now, he gets a “mega” deal to secure his future with Detroit.
“The #Lions and star edge Aidan Hutchinson have agreed to terms on a 4-year, mega-extension, according to his agent @MikeMcCartney7,” Rapoport said via X. “Another star edge rusher paid.”
Hutchinson is off to a flying start this year, already putting up great numbers through seven games. He has 16 tackles and six tackles for a loss, also forcing four fumbles. But what the Lions really pay Hutchinson for is getting to the quarterback. Six sacks are exactly the kind of production they want to this point of the season. They will now be hoping the number gets into the double digits for the second time in his career.
Now, all focus can be on what’s taking place on the field. Detroit goes into Sunday with an important divisional matchup in front of them, facing the Minnesota Vikings. There might be a little bittersweetness to any sacks recorded in this one, going after college teammate JJ McCarthy .
A lot more will be coming than just one game, though. The Lions have their guy for the foreseeable future, securing a top pass rusher in the NFL.
