After an injury-marred rookie season where he averaged 6.5 points in 36 games, the Oklahoma City Thunder committed to Ajay Mitchell with a three-year, $8.7M contract. One month into the 2025-26 season, it looks like the best contract in the NBA. Mitchell scored 17 points in the Thunder’s 126-102 blowout win over the Golden State Warriors Tuesday night in OKC. With Jalen Williams out for the first part of the season with an injury and Lu Dort dealing with a shoulder injury, the door opened for Mitchell to get more playing time — and he seized it. In the 2024 draft, the Thunder traded up to get Mitchell, who was the Big West Player of the Year and led UC Santa Barbara to the NCAA Tournament.
