New Orleans,LA – The New Orleans Pelicans released Coach Alvin Gentry today per reports. The Pelicans were sure to make the move after the team failed to make the playoffs this year. In five seasons with the team, Gentry’s tenure was an immense failure compiling a record of 175-225 with one playoff appearance.
Alvin Gentry has been relieved of his head coaching duties.

New Orleans VP of Basketball Ops David Griffin was quoted via press release “I’m grateful for and appreciative of Alvin’s commitment to the organization and, most importantly, the local community,”.“The City of New Orleans is richer because of his presence here. These types of moves are often about fit and timing, and we believe now is the right time to make this change and bring in a new voice.”
Various reports mention LA Clippers assistant coach Tyronn Lue as a leading candidate to fill Gentry’s former post. Also, Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Jason Kidd and Brooklyn Nets interim coach Jacque Vaughn are potential candidates as well. Stay tuned for this on going story…
