Andy Reid addresses heated sideline argument with Travis Kelce after win vs. Giants

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed his heated sideline exchange with tight end Travis Kelce during Sunday night’s win over the New York Giants. It’s not the first time the two got into it with each other, but Reid said it was much ado about nothing.

Basically, Reid wanted someone to step up and get a little fiery. Coming into the game, the Chiefs were 0-2 and struggled to put a total game together against the Giants. 

At the time of the blowup, the Chiefs’ offense had yet to score a touchdown. But, it was all good afterwards.

“I love Travis’ passion, man. So I’m okay with that,” Reid said. “We didn’t have enough of it in the  second quarter. It wasn’t where we needed to be. So within reason, you know, he knows, he knows when to, when to back off the pedal, and knows when to push it too. So that’s the part I love about him. The guy’s all in. Just sometimes I have to be the policeman … Listen. He’s an emotional guy. He’s Irish.”

Kelce had just four catches for 26 yards in the 22-9 win over New York. While he struggled, the rushing offense wasn’t much better and QB Patrick Mahomes finished with 224 yards and one touchdown through the air. Still, it was a Kansas City win, a much needed one.

“Don’t make too much of it,” Reid said. He’s a passionate guy, and I love that part. I’ve been through a lot of things with him, so it’s, uh, that’s all part of it. I love that he loves to play the game. That’s what I love. And it’s an emotional game. So I’ll take it.”
