(Summary) Off in the far, far corner of the LSU intramural fields — likely intended to keep crowds away — the most sought-after quarterback in the country dropped back in his black and green Isidore Newman High School shirt and shorts with all eyes on him. Everybody who was aware Arch Manning was there at LSU’s 7-on-7 camp made sure to trickle over to the field and get a look at the No. 1 player in the 2023 recruiting class, the one with the hall-of-fame name and the supposed talent to back it up.
The Newman shirt had the sleeves cut off, allowing Manning to display the arms that have certainly filled out in recent months. He’d been a national name since he was a 15-year-old freshman, turning heads from day 1 in his long, skinny frame. But Friday he looked like a 6-foot-4, 215-pound grownup with the frame to play SEC football, as so many expect.
