Awful Night: Keyshawn Davis Missed Weight and Backstage Altercation

By Arthur Rooks, Boxing Contributor

What was meant to be a triumphant homecoming for Keyshawn Davis and his brothers at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, spiraled into chaos and controversy on Saturday night. The main event, a WBO lightweight title defense for Davis against Edwin De Los Santos, was canceled after Davis weighed in 4.3 pounds over the 135-pound limit.

Stripped of his title, Davis faced sharp criticism for failing to meet the weight requirement, with De Los Santos’ promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, calling out his perceived lack of effort to make weight. The event’s restructured card saw Abdullah Mason promoted to the main event, while Davis’ older brother Kelvin faced Nahir Albright in the co-main event.

The night took an even darker turn backstage when Keyshawn and younger brother Keon were reportedly involved in an altercation with Albright following Kelvin’s upset loss. Albright alleged he was head-butted by Keyshawn during the confrontation, an incident that left him visibly bruised.

This altercation added to the weekend’s drama, which had already seen Keyshawn’s fight canceled and his reputation questioned. Albright, who had a contentious history with Keyshawn from a previous no-contest ruling, declared his desire for a rematch—this time in the ring. For the Davis brothers, what should have been a night of celebration ended in disappointment and damage control, leaving questions about their future in boxing.
