Ben Johnson breaks silence on viral CBS interview from Raiders game

Coming back onto the field Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson stopped for an interview with CBS. From there, his exchange with reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala caused a buzz on social media. Mainly for the way Johnson responded to a question from Kinkhabwala.

Johnson got asked about the moment on Monday, admitting he was “disappointed” in himself. There might have been some miscommunication between him and Kinkhabwala due to crowd noise inside Allegiant Stadium. However, Johnson wants to come off better in those interviews moving forward.

“In the moment, I didn’t think too much of it,” Johnson said. “I’m kind of in game mode. When I look back on it, I am a little bit disappointed with what that looks like. I didn’t hear very well. That’s not an excuse but when I thought I heard, not a question, but that I needed to make some changes, I didn’t take that very well. I’ll do a better job with those moving forward.”

Chicago found itself down 14-9 in the first half. Kinkhabwala began the interview by asking about the offensive struggles, getting an answer out of Johnson. It’s the next time Kinkhabwala speaks where the incident occurred.

“So you need to change what you’re doing?” Kinkhabwala asked. Johnson responded, “I don’t know. You think so? We’re going to be just fine.” At the time, Kinkhabwala laughed it off while the CBS crew in the booth noted an “intimidating stare” coming from the Bears head coach.
