Brandon Ingram Feels Unappreciated by Pelicans Amid Contract Dispute
By Rell Wright, Pelicans Contributor
In a recent Instagram post, Brandon Ingram seemed to express his dissatisfaction with the New Orleans Pelicans, fueling speculation about his future with the team. Ingram shared a video clip of a motivational speaker highlighting the importance of being in environments that recognize one’s value.
Ah… the NBA is real quiet, literally nothing happening… All the trades seem to be done…

Many interpreted this as a subtle message directed at the Pelicans, who have yet to meet his contract demands. Despite his impressive performance over the past five seasons—averaging 23.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game—the franchise appears hesitant to offer Ingram the maximum deal he seeks.
While his camp is pushing for a four-year, $208 million contract, the Pelicans are reportedly more comfortable with an offer closer to $170 million. Furthermore, Ingram was notably absent from the team’s recent workouts in California, making him the only Pelicans player, besides Daniel Theis, who did not attend after reports indicated the entire team would be there, according to Shamit Dua.

Last season, Ingram appeared in 64 games for New Orleans, averaging 20.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game. His ability to score the ball has been his standout trait since entering the league, but the Pelicans believe they might be able to get similar production at a lower price. Pelicans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin addressed the situation, stating, “Brandon wants to stay here. He believes in what we are building.
That’s meaningful to him.” Griffin’s comments underscore the delicate balance the organization must strike between retaining their star player and maintaining financial flexibility. With the Pelicans also facing a potential $200 million commitment to Trey Murphy III, the team’s financial decisions are under close scrutiny. As tensions simmer going into Labor Day weekend, all eyes are on Ingram and the Pelicans to see if they can reach a mutually beneficial agreement or if this latest episode signals deeper rifts within the organization.
