Miami is my new No. 1 team on my Associated Press ballot after the Hurricanes’ win at Florida State. With wins against Notre Dame, USF, Florida and Florida State, Miami edges Ohio State for the top spot.
Even with an impressive win vs. Minnesota, the Buckeyes dropped to No. 2 because their best win (Texas) does not look as good as the Longhorns haven’t looked great so far and lost at Florida Saturday.
New to my ballot this week are Nebraska, Cincinnati and Memphis. Falling out of my Top 25 this week: Penn State, Texas and Iowa State.
My Top 25 ballot after Week 6:
The Hurricanes jumped out to a 25-point lead at Florida State and then held off their in-state rivals 28-22 in Tallahassee. Miami quarterback Carson Beck threw for 241 yards and four touchdowns, two each to Malachi Toney and CJ Daniels . Miami is off this week and then hosts Louisville on Friday, Oct. 17.
The Buckeyes blasted Minnesota 42-3 behind quarterback Julian Sayin and wide receiver Carnell Tate . Sayin threw for 326 yards and three TDs. Tate had 10 receptions for 163 yards and one TD. The Buckeyes visit Illinois on Saturday.
The Ducks, who were off last week, play host to Indiana on Saturday. In their second season as a Big Ten member, the Ducks are 11-0 in the regular season against Big Ten opponents. Oregon and Indiana feature two of the Big Ten’s top three scoring offenses.
The Rebels, who were off last week, host Washington State on Saturday. The Rebels’ schedule amps up the following two weeks with consecutive road trips at Georgia and Oklahoma.
