San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been working to get back on the field. However, as far as this weekend’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers goes, it’s not looking good for the franchise quarterback.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter appeared on Get Up on Thursday morning to share an update on Purdy’s injury status. Nothing is certain yet. However, he wasn’t able to practice on Wednesday. That’s a bad sign for him and the 49ers as it relates to playing on Sunday.

“As for Brock Purdy, the 49ers quarterback,” Schefter said. “He also did not practice yesterday due to that turf toe. We could get another helping of Mac Jones , who’s been tremendous for the 49ers so far, last season beating the Los Angeles Rams last Thursday night in LA. We’ll see whether Purdy can get back out there, but the fact that he wasn’t out there Wednesday to start the week usually is a sign that we could see Mac Jones square off against Baker Mayfield on Sunday.”

The 25-year-old Purdy was a Pro Bowl selection in 2023. However, in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, he suffered multiple injuries. That includes the turf toe that has been following him around throughout the season. He would later return in September to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4. However, he seemed to reaggravate the injury and missed their Week 5 game on a short week.

In his two games this season, Brock Purdy is completing 65.8% of passes for 586 yards and four touchdowns. However, he has also thrown four interceptions.
