Canelo/Crawford on Tap for Las Vegas

Canelo/Crawford on Tap for Las Vegas

By Author Rooks, Boxing Contributor

The boxing world is abuzz with anticipation as the super fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford inches closer to reality. During a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Canelo Alvarez provided an exciting update about the location for this monumental clash. When asked where the fight would take place, Alvarez confidently declared, “Vegas. Yes, of course.

There’s no better weekend in Vegas than Mexican Independence Day.” This announcement aligns perfectly with the rich tradition of hosting marquee fights in Las Vegas, the ultimate stage for high-stakes boxing events. With both fighters boasting illustrious careers and fan bases spanning the globe, this showdown has all the ingredients to become an unforgettable spectacle.

Two of this era’s best operators will take different strategies into the ring on Sept. 13. Canelo, 34, the undisputed super middleweight champion, has the advantages of power and experience, since Crawford, 37, a former undisputed champion at 140 and 147 pounds, is stepping up two weight classes—after only one fight at 154 pounds. Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) won his first 168-pound title seven years ago and has held world titles in four weight classes during a career of almost 20 years.

However, his most recent fight—a decision win over William Scull earlier this month—hinted at decline, as he hasn’t scored a stoppage since 2021. Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs), ranked No. 3 on Uncrowned male pound-for-pound list, has a reach advantage and better boxing skills despite operating at smaller weight divisions. It’s physical Canelo vs. technical Crawford, and this fight, set against the electric backdrop of Las Vegas on Mexican Independence Day, could be decided by the tightest of margins.
