Chiefs announce outcome of Patrick Mahomes ACL surgery

by: Chandler Vessels 23 hours ago ChandlerVessels

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes underwent successful surgery Monday to repair a tear in his left ACL, the team announced. The surgery was performed by Dr. Dan Cooper in Dallas and Mahomes is expected to begin his rehab process immediately.

The injury occurred Sunday afternoon with just two minutes remaining in a Week 15 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Of course, the QB will not return this season, but itโ€™s still within the realm of possibilities that Mahomes could be back early next season.

Mahomes, for the most part, has looked solid this season, but he has not looked like what fans saw in 2022 when he won his second MVP. Entering Sundayโ€™s game, Mahomes has completed 63.1% of his passes for 3,398 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions with a 91.2 passer rating.

Kaansas City would go on to lose Sundayโ€™s contest against the Chargers, marking their third straight loss and their fifth in the past six games. The Chiefs fell to 6-8 on the season and have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.

This marks the first time since 2014 that Kansas City will not compete in the postseason. Mahomes had never missed the playoffs in his career and led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl victories in five total appearances since 2019.
