Coaches Poll Top 25: College Football Rankings released after wild Week 5

The latest Coaches Poll Top 25 rankings were released following a wild Week 5 of college football. There were more shakeups!

Primetime games had massive implications, such as the Alabama-Georgia game and Oregon taking down Penn State. The Big Ten and SEC races are certainly heating up for one.

But there are more things to dive into after Week 5 of college football. Let’s dive into the latest Coaches Poll.

Ohio State remained undefeated after a road test at Washington. The Buckeyes beat the Huskies 24-6, controlling the game after a scoreless first quarter.

Julian Sayin was very efficient, going 22-of-28 passing for 208 yards and two touchdowns. WR Jeremiah Smith’s eight catches for 81 yards and a touchdown helped the team run away from Washington.

Oregon went into Penn State and beat the Nittany Lions in double overtime, making a statement across the Coaches Poll and college football of course. Dan Lanning loves to take these types of challenges head on and boy does he deliver.

Dante Moore was 29-of-39 passing for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Dillon Thieneman grabbed the game-winning interception in double OT.

Miami stayed high up the top 10 of the Coaches Poll after a bye week. The Hurricanes beat Florida 26-7 last week before the time off.

Carson Beck is in the Heisman race and Mario Cristobal has this team rolling at the top of the ACC. The conference is theirs to lose.

Ole Miss made one of the bigger statements of the weekend, beating SEC foe LSU 24-19. The Rebels built a 17-7 halftime lead and hung on and prevented a Tigers’ rally.

The defense held Tigers’ QB Garrett Nussmeier to 197 yards, one touchdown and forced an interception. On the flip side, Trinidad Chambliss threw for 314 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also ran for 71 yards.

Texas A&M remained undefeated with a 16-10 win over Auburn but it was a grinder. The Aggies led 13-3 at halftime but had to hang on for dear life.

Le’Veon Moss was the star on offense in this one, running for 139 yards and one touchdown. The Aggies held Auburn to just 177 total yards of offense.

Penn State remained in the top 10 of the Coaches Poll following their heartbreaking loss to Oregon at home. This is still a very talented team, but man this one stings for James Franklin and crew.

There’s a notion that he can’t win the big one or win one in a big spot. There’s been too few victory Sundays following massive games like the one against Oregon.
