On Monday, Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheime r pulled up to a press conference with a visor on backwards. It didn’t take long for him to catch criticism for his fashion decision. On The Herd , host Colin Cowherd roasted Schottenheimer for wearing his hat backwards.
“Bank of America is behind him. It’s a big sponsor. And so I do think if you’re the head coach or the quarterback of an organization and you do press conferences, you’re not only representing yourself — that’s very selfish and narcissistic — you are representing the Dallas Cowboys, and you’re representing Bank of America,” Cowherd said.
“… I tend to think here’s what men do very poorly. Men often don’t think of others in social situations. It’s, ‘How do I look?’ And I think women tend to be a little more self aware, a little less narcissism. So when you sit in front of a podium, you’re representing the Cowboys, you’re representing Bank of America, you’re representing a $12 billion corporation. I think you got to do better as a head coach than a visor backwards.”
Schottenheimer has bigger problems to worry about than the way his visor sits on his head. After spending two seasons as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator, Schottenheimer is entering his debut campaign as the team’s head coach.
After the Cowboys went 7-10 last season and missed the playoffs, they fired head coach Mike McCarthy . Simply put, Schottenheimer is under pressure to succeed.
It doesn’t help that Cowboys star EDGE Micah Parsons requested a trade last week because the organization’s management won’t offer him a new contract. Nonetheless, Cowherd doesn’t believe Schottenheimer’s troubles are valid excuses for his attire.
“If you’re walking the red carpet… You’re the lead actor in a Disney film with Steven Spielberg. Well, you’re representing Steven Spielberg and Disney, not just you,” Cowherd said. “You want to look the part. You’re representing a staff, a corporation, a legendary director, that stuff. I don’t want you to look like a guy that’s here to move my couch.”
