Cowboys WR KaVontae Turpin addresses offseason marijuana, weapon arrest

Dallas Cowboys WR and All-Pro kick returner  KaVontae Turpin  was arrested earlier this month on charges related to marijuana and weapons possession. The news came ahead of his fourth season with the franchise.

Turpin has since returned to the field for Dallas and is an active participant in training camp. Following Wednesday’s practice, Turpin addressed his arrest for the first time with the media.

“At the end of the day, I gotta be better,” Turpin said, via Jon . “Me and (Brian Schottenheimer) had a great conversation. We’re in a great place right now. I gotta take accountability.”

Details from the arrest , via TMZ Sports, stated that the Allen Police Department pulled the Cowboys wideout over around 11:49 p.m. after Turpin was clocked at 97 mph in a 70 mph zone, per the report. An unholstered 9MM pistol was seen in the backseat and less than two ounces of marijuana were later found in the car’s center console.

Turpin was eventually booked on two misdemeanor charges: one count of possession of marijuana less than two ounces and one count of unlawful carrying of a weapon. He later posted bond, which was listed at $1,500 per the police report.

Now entering his fourth season with the Cowboys in 2025, the former TCU Horned Frogs standout will look to put this arrest past him. This comes after a career season in 2024 which saw him get named a first-team All-Pro kick returner last year after returning 27 kickoffs for 904 yards and a touchdown.
