It’s been a roller coaster of the season for the Toronto Maple Leafs so far, and not one the fans have been enjoying. The Leafs finished the month of October with a record of 5-5-1, and after winning three in a row to start the month of November, they lost two games in a row over the weekend, and in embarrassing fashion to boot. While Saturday’s game was a healthy mix of poor goaltending and bad defensive play, Sunday’s game against the Hurricanes was a humbling experience for all involved, to the point where Dennis Hildeby, who allowed five goals, wasn’t even close to the reason the Leafs lost the game. Head coach Craig Berube says that the team’s struggles are a mentality issue. “For me, it’s just a mindset. If you want to be a good defensive team, you’ve got to check, you’ve got to have good sticks, you’ve got to win battles, and you’ve got to have good structure. And right now, it’s a mindset for me.
