Dallas Cowboys website causes Jadeveon Clowney number confusion

One day into his tenure as a Dallas Cowboy, there is already controversy surrounding defensive end Jadeveon Clowney . Thankfully nothing too serious, just over what number the defensive player will be wearing. Two different official sources from the Cowboys have listed different answers.

“New Cowboys DE Jadeveon Clowney listed as No. 96 on the team’s latest roster,” The Athletic ‘s Jon Machota said via X. “But he’s No. 42 on the updated depth chart.”

Most spots from Clowney resulted in him dawning something in the 90s. His number with the Houston Texans after being picked No. 1 overall in the draft was 90. A switch-up came in Tennessee and then for two seasons in Cleveland, going with 99. The Ravens let Clowney take on No. 24 before Cleveland gave him the No. 7 — the first time he wore something in the single digits.

Three of those four are currently occupied by somebody on the roster. If Clowney wanted, 99 is available for the taking. But it appears as if 96 or 42 will wind up being the final answer.
