Daniel Jones injury update: Colts QB exits game, immediately gets awful diagnosis

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a very scary injury in the first half of the team’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. With less than a minute in the first quarter, Jones suffered a non-contact injury and was forced to exit the game, being replaced by rookie Riley Leonard .

Jones would be attended to on the field, with trainers focusing on his lower leg. Very shortly after he exited the game, the Colts announced that Jones would not return with an Achilles injury. However, the exact nature of the injury is still unclear. Still, that’s a very bad sign for the veteran quarterback who has had a renaissance season with Indianapolis.

Initially, Daniel Jones tried to limp off the field before going down. He would be visibly frustrated, slamming his helmet into the ground while trainers attended to him. That non-contact injury can be seen, here:

At the time, the Colts trailed Jacksonville 14-7 in a game that is vital to the AFC South race. Both teams entered the game at 8-4 and in a tie for first place in the division. They’re also both just one game ahead of the Houston Texans. It’s the first of two meetings for these two teams.

Indianapolis needed to get a good result on Sunday too. The Colts lost two straight and three of their last four entering the game. Now, that task is astronomically harder without Daniel Jones.
