David Carr reacts to Shedeur Sanders' rough preseason finale amid roster questions

In the Cleveland Browns’ preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams, Shedeur Sanders took the field in the second half. Joe Flacco got the start and Dillon Gabriel took over from there, meaning Sanders was the third quarterback to enter the game.

It was a rough day for the former Colorado star, though, as he took five sacks and went 3-of-6 passing for 14 yards. Afterward, NFL Network’s David Carr pinpointed why things didn’t go well.

Carr saw Sanders pressing a bit and perhaps trying to make plays happen that weren’t there. Of course, there’s also the caveat that it’s preseason and it might not entirely be on the rookie quarterback. Still, it was a rough way for Sanders to end preseason action.

“Shedeur, he just pressed,” Carr said. “That’s all it was. It was kind of what we were talking about before the game. We would’ve hoped that he would be locked in on the details, and who knows what was going on around him. Who knows what guys were in with him? That’s what we don’t always really know. You start really digging into the depth charts. Guys weren’t really separating, so there wasn’t really a place to go.

“And he’s trying to make something happen. He has limited opportunities to kind of show what he can do. So now, he’s trying to make plays. He’s trying to create big moments, and there really weren’t any there to be had. It just ended up being negative plays. It just wasn’t a great outing.”
