Deatrich Wise injury update: Commanders DE releases statement after season-ending injury

Washington Commanders defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. was carted to the locker room after a scary quad injury in the second quarter of Thursday night’s 27-18 loss to the host Green Bay Packers . ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported Wise’s quad injury is season-ending later Friday afternoon.

Earlier Friday, Wise released a message on social media thanking “all the love, prayers, and support” he’s received since the injury. Wise suffered the injury when he was rolled up on an extra point try following a 2-yard touchdown run by Packers running back Josh Jacobs with 7:34 left before halftime.

“I’m truly grateful for all the love, prayers, and support I’ve received. This was an unfortunate experience, but when you give so much to the game and do everything you can to improve for yourself and for your team’s success, it can feel like there’s a lot to play for,” Wise’s Instagram statement read. “When you stop, it can feel like everything around you stops too. But I know the best healer (prayer emoji). God only puts us through what we can handle, and every challenge carries a lesson. Out of every test comes growth, shaping us into who we need to become to accomplish the goals we set from the start.
