Derek Carr’s Shocking Oblique Injury What’s Next for Saints QB?

By Niles Carpenter, Saints Contributor

The New Orleans Saints have hit another roadblock as quarterback Derek Carr is expected to be out week-to-week due to an oblique injury, according to Josina Anderson. Carr sustained the injury during Monday night’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, leaving the game early after struggling to gain momentum.

With Carr sidelined, the Saints are evaluating their options, including rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler, who may get the starting nod in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Carr’s injury marks the first time since 2017 that he could miss significant game time.

Through the first five games of the 2024 season, Carr has posted a strong 70.3% completion rate, throwing for 989 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions.

However, the Saints are currently in a three-game losing streak, and whether Jake Haener or Rattler will step up as the starter remains a pressing question for the team’s offense.
