Dodgers call up former MLB stolen bases leader

Needing replacements following Max Muncy’s injury, the Los Angeles Dodgers have called Esteury Ruiz up to the Big Leagues. The 2023 stolen base leader officially joined Los Angeles on Thursday. Muncy left Wednesday’s walk-off win over the Chicago White Sox in the sixth inning after Michael A. Taylor slid hard into his leg attempting to steal third base. Muncy went down in obvious pain, favoring his knee, and would not return. Although Muncy’s MRI came back clean, he is still expected to miss six weeks with a bone bruise. “It was obviously amazing hearing the news that nothing was torn, nothing was ripped,” said Muncy, via ESPN. “That was obviously a huge sigh of relief for me, but it still sounds like too long of a time in my head.” Ruiz, who has gone 1-2 with a strikeout in two games since joining the Dodgers, last played in May of 2024 when still a member of the Oakland Athletics.
