Eagles trading WR John Metchie III to Jets for CB Michael Carter II

The Eagles and Jets are addressing positions of need ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline.

Philadelphia is trading fourth-year receiver John Metchie III and a 2027 sixth-round selection to New York for nickelback Michael Carter II and a 2027 seventh-round pick, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday, per sources.

Carter, a reliable piece in the Jets’ secondary for five seasons, has played in five games this year, returning last week against Cincinnati after three games missed due to a concussion.

To leave the 1-7 Jets for the reigning Super Bowl champions, Carter agreed to delete the $5 million guaranteed for injury in his 2026 contract year, Rapoport reported. The defensive back has two years remaining on a three-year extension he signed in 2024.

In Philly, Carter can fill in at defensive back for Adoree’ Jackson, who suffered a concussion in Week 8 and was struggling in his first season with the Eagles. Carter’s presence gives defensive coordinator Vic Fangio more flexibility in the secondary as the Eagles (6-2) head down the home stretch of the 2025 campaign.

Metchie, a reserve pass-catching option for Philly, has just four catches for 18 yards in seven games played (31 offensive snaps) this season, his first with the Eagles. The wideout was taken by the Texans in the second round of the 2022 draft after falling due to a torn ACL suffered in his final year at Alabama.
