New Orleans– The New Orleans Saints were rumored to have shown interest in former Seattle Seahawks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney several weeks ago. The feeling appears to be mutual as Clowney was rumored to have mentioned the Saints or Cowboys as his preferred destinations for the upcoming season.
The Saints have just under 9 million in cap money according to spotrac.com. Clowney is interested in a one year deal with a contender but his dollar amount for the Saints could be problematic. Of course, the Saints have Cap Magician GM Mickey Loomis whose known for finding money and putting spectacular deals together. Clowney is reportedly looking for a 15 to 20 million dollar deal but could adjust if the right team gets close enough.
New Orleans has a need for a veteran edge rusher who can sit opposite of All-pro defensive end Cam Jordan. The Saints were third in the league last year in sacks with Jordan leading the way with 15.5. Marcus Davenport the other end, hasn’t been able to shake the injury bug so one can see why the Saints are interested in Clowney.
If New Orleans wants Clowney, they can get him by releasing a few players to open more cap space. The team can free up almost 10 million more dollars by releasing players like: OL Nick Easton, DB Patrick Robinson & DL Mario Edwards Jr. This story is still developing so stick with us for more updates…
