by: Sam Gillenwater 9 hours ago samdg_33

‘College GameDay’ will be coming to Lubbock on Saturday morning, with a Top 10 matchup set to be played of No. 7 BYU vs. No. 8 Texas Tech out of the Big 12. With that, an all-time name for the Red Raiders will be in town as the Celebrity Guest Picker this week.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been announced as this weekend’s guest picker. He’ll be back at his alma mater for the Top 10 game in conference play, being hosted inside Jones AT&T Stadium.

“Come on now, you know @PatrickMahomes had to come back to Lubbock to be this weekend’s guest picker,” the show’s social media accounts shared on Friday morning.

Mahomes was an obvious selection, being one of the all-time best quarterbacks in school history at Texas Tech before making his case as one of the best ever to play the sport through his ninth season so far. He has won a pair of MVP awards, with three more as Super Bowl MVP with the Chiefs in the NFL. He left the Red Raiders among the top three passers for the program, posting 63.5% completion for 11,252 yards, averaging a school record of 351.6 yards per game, with 93 touchdowns and 29 interceptions, in his collegiate career from 2014 to 2016.

It also doesn’t hurt that the Chiefs (5-4) are on a bye this week. Coming off a 28-21 loss at Buffalo in Week 9, Kansas City is off in Week 10 before returning for a divisional matchup against the Denver Broncos in Week 11.
