ESPN's Dan Graziano analyzes Jalen Milroe's preseason debut, role with Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks faithful got their first look at rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe in Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Las Vegas Raiders. Milroe, who starred for two seasons as Alabama ‘s starting quarterback (2023-24), was selected with the No. 92 overall pick in the Third Round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Veteran quarterback Drew Lock got the start and played the first half, but Milroe was given the second half to shine. He completed six of his 10 passes for 61 yards and no scores, while rushing for 38 yards on three attempts. ESPN’s Dan Graziano analyzed Milroe’s performance on Friday morning’s edition of “Get Up.”

“Very interesting because Jalen Milroe is obviously a project player that people thought very highly of coming into the [NFL] Draft,” Graziano said. “The Seahawks signed Sam Darnold . He is going to be their starting quarterback this year, but the Seahawks do not guarantee money in veteran contracts beyond year one.”

“The Seahawks’ commitment to Sam Darnold is exactly one-year long if you really look at the contract, so could he be their answer in the future? Yes. But if not, could Jalen Milroe be a guy that advances? They would like to see that and would like to find that out this season, this preseason and obviously there’s a lot to like about Jalen Milroe . Seahawks keeping all their options open for the future, even as they prepare for this season with Darnold as their starter.”

Harry Douglas laments Milroe’s decision making

In his two seasons as the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback, Milroe passed for 5,678 yards, 39 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,257 yards and 32 touchdowns, as he led Alabama to a 21-6 record over the past two seasons.
