ESPN’s Greg McElroy Warns: “Don’t Sleep on LSU”
By Milton Manningham, LSU Football Contributor
ESPN analyst Greg McElroy is urging everyone not to underestimate the LSU Tigers. Following their dramatic 29-26 overtime win against the Ole Miss Rebels, McElroy emphasized LSU’s ability to capitalize on their opponent’s mistakes and find ways to win games. “Do not sleep on LSU,” McElroy insisted. Despite being outplayed for most of the game, LSU’s resilience and ability to execute in key moments—especially with quarterback Garrett Nussmeier—makes them a team to watch in the SEC.

McElroy highlighted Nussmeier’s performance, noting that while his numbers may not have been flashy, the young quarterback executed difficult, low-percentage throws with poise. McElroy believes Nussmeier is on the verge of a breakout, stating, “Be glad you’re getting him now, because in a couple of weeks, he’s going to be the real deal.” McElroy’s confidence in Nussmeier’s talent signals that LSU’s offense could be hitting its stride just in time for the tough SEC matchups ahead.
LSU’s schedule remains challenging, but McElroy sees the Tigers improving with each game. He predicts that the team will be a “real problem” for their remaining opponents and might even find themselves in the SEC Championship conversation. As LSU continues to grow, McElroy suggests their best football is still ahead of them. With their arrow pointing up, McElroy believes LSU’s success could surprise many by the season’s end.
