Former Saints Corner Delvin Breaux Is Available! Can The Saints Use Him?

New Orleans,La – New Orleans Saints former cornerback Delvin Breaux has falling on hard times. In a recent interview with WWL, Breaux 30 who was born in New Orleans,La aired out his frustrations about his living conditions. “I’m going back to eating cereal, I’m going back to eating things that’s for survival. You know I’m eating canned food man, and I never thought I’d be back to doing that.” Breaux said.

The words that Delvin spoke has pretty much summoned up what a lot of people are going through across the world. The Covid-19 situation has created a massive crisis that is crippling a lot of families especially those in New Orleans. Breaux’s financial position is surprising for many because of the his journey from the CFL to the NFL, which ultimately led him to the Saints.

The New Orleans Saints signed him on January 27 2015 to a Reserve/Future contract. He went on to play in 22 games compile 66 tackles with 3 interceptions for the Black and Gold before injuries took their toll.

The Team decided to move on from Breaux who then made the decision in 2018 to return to Canada and play for the Hamilton Tigercats. This past May Breaux fired off about what really occurred between himself and the team which lead to his release. Breaux said “It was a tough time for me and my family, man. We didn’t know where to go or what was going to happen. We were going through the misdiagnosis, and I’ve never been through that before,” He also said “They did what they did, and my fans kept asking me ‘Why did you just leave us?’ I didn’t just leave. … Me and Coach Payton were not on good terms. That situation was hatred, I’m just going to be f–king honest.”

Later on Breaux did say that  there’s “no bad blood” between he and the New Orleans Saints organization. With the Canadian Football League canceling its season because of the pandemic, it severely impact Delvin’s finances.

He was quoted as saying “I last got paid in November 2019. I didn’t even get the stimulus check, I got nothing. I’m actually surviving off hustle, asking people (for help). I hate asking people, it’s embarrassing.” But Breaux says you never really know what’s going in people’s lives. Man, people are struggling. I’m struggling, and people don’t know my case. They say ‘oh you have money.’  I don’t have money, ask child support, ask spousal support, ask paying bills, ask all those people where the damn money goes.”

On social media Monday, Breaux called out to the Mayor of New Orleans to help people facing evictions, including himself.  Breaux also says he has until the end of the month at his apartment in New Orleans.

“I have to find ways to make myself pay the rent and to make sure I have a roof over my head, not just for myself, but for my son here as well. A couple of months ago, I was almost living in my car.”

With all of that being said, Is their a remote chance of Delvin Breaux finding himself on the New Orleans Saints roster this season? The facts are Breaux who is a good cornerback (when healthy) could help the team in the secondary. The Saints corner depth behind the top four could be looked at seriously, especially if injuries hit.

Below is a list of the teams current CBs:

CB 1 Marshon Lattimore

CB 2 Janoris Jenkins

CB 3 Ceedy Duce (aka Chauncey Gardner Johnson)

CB 4 Patrick Robinson

CB 5 PJ Williams/Justin Hardee

CB 6 Johnson Bademosi

CB 7&8 Keith Washington/Tino Ellis

I most certainly can envision a player as talented as Breaux, providing depth in the cornerback room. The problem is Coach Sean Payton and wether he would allow such a move. The way Breaux and Payton fell out before his release coupled with the rehashing of his injury situation early this year, would be problematic.

I’ve seen enough of Coach Payton to know once your in his dog house, its very difficult to get out. I said difficult not impossible IF both can put the past behind them, this would be inexpensive and intriguing paring.

It would solve two issues: #1: New Orleans would get a quality corner, who’s healthy, inexpensive and focused #2: Breaux would solve his monetary issues, plus give him a shot at Superbowl with his hometown team.

I know this has a slim to nil chance of occurring but there still that slim chance it does. What do you think?
