For nearly a century, the pro football team in Washington D.C. went by one moniker — the Redskins. Facing widespread criticism for years regarding the name, the franchise dropped the tag after the 2020 seasons ultimately opted to be called the Commanders beginning in 2022.
One Washington alumni, Jason Buck, who won a Super Bowl with the franchise in 1991, is advocating for the name to be restored. He wants to send the issue all the way up to Donald Trump. He’s already penned a letter to the president on the subject matter, and revealed what he’d tell him directly if given the opportunity.

“Just stand with us and stand for common sense and help us,” Buck told TMZ Sports. “Help me bring the Redskin people back in, completely into the fold of the United States, so we can fix their system and have them enjoy the exact principles of the Constitution given to us by God and our founding fathers … Let’s, let’s make sure that our Redskin brothers that helped build this nation have the same exact opportunities and blessings.
“I would give anything to bill to be with President Trump and discuss this. We have got to come back to normalcy and just normal American life where, you know, we put those things aside. We love each other.”
