Gayle Benson Demands Better: Moore and Loomis Face Pressure as Saints Seek Answers

Gayle Benson demands better from the Saints. Big Q examines her challenge to Kellen Moore and Mickey Loomis, plus six confirmed October 13 roster moves.

Gayle Benson Demands Better: Moore and Loomis Face Pressure as Saints Seek Answers

NEW ORLEANS — Gayle Benson is demanding a better response from the Saints, and her message reaches across the organization. With New Orleans at 1–4, the owner publicly challenged the people responsible for preparing the team, building the roster and delivering results.

Her October 13 remarks put head coach Kellen Moore and Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis at the center of that accountability discussion. On this edition of The Sports Coma with Big Q, Big Q reacts to Benson’s words and examines whether they could signal bigger changes ahead.

The episode also covers six confirmed Saints roster transactions announced the same day, including the return of cornerback Decamerion Richardson.

Gayle Benson sets expectations for Saints leadership

Speaking to the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club, Benson addressed fan frustration and described the team’s start as unacceptable. In the published video and transcript of her speech, she assigned responsibility to Moore’s coaches for preparation, Loomis and the football staff for roster construction, the players for execution, and herself for organizational oversight.

“Words will not restore our fans’ confidence. Our performance must do that.”Gayle Benson

That is the practical challenge facing New Orleans: demonstrate improvement through the quality of its football. For a frustrated fan base, another promise of a turnaround will carry little weight without a visible response.

Could Benson’s message lead to bigger changes?

Benson expressed a willingness to make decisions needed to improve the team. She did not identify specific coaching or front-office changes in her remarks.

Whether the speech foreshadows those decisions is the question behind Big Q’s reaction. The public emphasis on responsibility gives fans a clear standard against which to judge the organization’s response. A personnel adjustment can address one roster need; sustained improvement requires preparation and execution to improve together.

There is also a distinction between the owner’s broader message and Tuesday’s roster announcement. The transactions confirm changes to personnel, but they do not establish that Benson directed them as a response to her speech.

Saints announce six roster transactions

According to the Saints’ official October 13 announcement, Loomis reported the following moves:

PlayerPositionTransaction
Decamerion RichardsonCornerbackRe-signed
Cal AdomitisLong snapperContract terminated
Jayden PriceCornerbackWaived
Brock RechsteinerWide receiverWaived; previously on Reserve/Suspended by Commissioner
Ulysses BentleyRunning backPractice squad contract terminated
Trey PalmerWide receiverPractice squad contract terminated

Richardson had joined New Orleans through a waiver claim at the end of the preseason. The team’s announcement notes that he appeared in two games for the Saints and recorded one special-teams tackle. His return makes cornerback depth and special-teams contributions relevant parts of the roster discussion.

The response must reach the field

The Saints’ 23–13 loss to Minnesota illustrates the work ahead. New Orleans generated 142 total yards and converted only two of 10 third-down opportunities.

For Moore, a useful response would include clearer answers to pressure: coordinated protection calls, accessible short throws for Tyler Shough and a running game that helps the offense avoid difficult passing situations. Those are proposed priorities, rather than announced changes to the game plan.

For the football staff, the test is whether roster decisions improve usable depth and reliability. For the players, it is whether preparation translates into fewer costly mistakes. The next game offers a chance to show progress, but restoring confidence will require consistency beyond one afternoon.
