Pittsburgh Steelers receiver DK Metcalf punched a fan during a game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon. But he was not ejected from the game.
Metcalf’s punch didn’t seem to fully land; a fan he was engaged with at the end of the stands was wearing a fluffy blue wig. Metcalf’s blow seemed to just miss the side of the fan’s face and catch mostly hair.
Still, that wasn’t the reason that the star receiver wasn’t tossed. Rules expert Gene Steratore weighed in with his view of what happened and how punishment might be handed down to DK Metcalf as a result.
“On this situation because the officials did not see this and you wouldn’t expect them to where DK Metcalf was, it’s not something they can weigh in on from an officiating standpoint,” Steratore said. “I have been notified, though, that that will be delivered to compliance with the NFL and they’ll address it at that point.”
The sequence in question with DK Metcalf occurred during the second quarter. Cameras were on him when he made the swing.
In fact, CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson was also watching closely at the time of the incident. She, too, weighed in on what she saw.
