The clock ran out on both the Dallas Cowboys (1-2-1) and the Green Bay Packers (2-1-1) during their Week 4 Sunday Night Football matchup. The game ended in a 40-40 tie, something Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens did not think was a possibility.
Packers kicker Brandon McManus drilled a 34-yard field goal to tie the game as time expired in overtime. Pickens assumed they would start another quarter to determine a winner.
“I’ve never been a part of a tie in my life. I didn’t even know football worked like that,” Pickens told Jane Slater of NFL Network. “I thought we just would start another quarter right now and keep going. But a tie? That’s a first time, yeah.”

Under the NFL ‘s overtime rules, both teams are guaranteed one possession during one 10-minute period of play. If the game is tied when the clock hits zero, the result of the game is recorded as a tie. Sunday’s game was the 30th tie in league history dating back to 1974. It was the first tie since a December 2022 game between the New York Giants and the Washington Commanders.
George Pickens shines in Week 4 tie vs. Packers
Defense was optional on Sunday night, as both teams combined for 925 total yards. Pickens was the game’s leading receiver, making eight catches for 134 yards and two scores.
