Copied!
Brian Daboll will stay the course with his starting quarterback.
The New York Giants coach told reporters on Monday that the team plans to start Russell Wilson in their Week 2 game on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
“After a game — it’s an emotional game, tough game,” Daboll said. “Didn’t play particularly well, I would say collectively, but in terms of making any of those decisions — really at any position or schematic changes — I’d like to do it with a clear head and watch the tape. Again, like I said yesterday, that game doesn’t fall on Russell Wilson. We got to do a better job collectively; coaching, playing. But Russ will be the starter.”
Questions about whether Daboll would pull the plug on the Wilson experiment and hand the reins to rookie Jaxson Dart arose following Sunday’s 21-6 loss to the Washington Commanders. After initially saying Wilson was still the QB, Daboll left the door slightly ajar.

“Yes, I mean we’re just right here after the game,” Daboll said on Sunday. “I got confidence in Ru — we got to do better around overall. Coaches, players, around everybody.”
The quote spawned the idea that the Giants might bench Wilson after one game in which the offense struggled mightily.
The veteran signal-caller went 17 of 37 (45.9 completion percentage) for 168 yards and a 59.3 passer rating. It marked the worst completion percentage in Wilson’s 53 career games with at least 35-plus pass attempts, per NFL Research. The QB also led the Giants with 44 rush yards.
It wasn’t a pretty start to the season for the Big Blue offense, but then again, Wilson has been an inconsistent quarterback the last several years. Daboll knew — or should have known — entering the season the type of quarterback he employed.
The fact that the questions are already hot after one game indicates that Dart’s time to start will come soon. Just not in Dallas next week.
