New York’s rematch with the Eagles has been marred by an injury to one of the team’s bright young stars.
Giants running back Cam Skattebo suffered a significant ankle injury in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles and was ruled out just before halftime.
Skattebo was brought to the ground awkwardly by Eagles linebacker Zack Baun on a catch attempt, causing his foot to stick in the grass at Lincoln Financial Field and bend awkwardly underneath him. His teammates rightfully looked distraught as he was carted off the field with an air cast on his right leg.
The rookie RB had 12 rushing yards, 18 receiving yards and a touchdown reception, and New York was trailing, 14-7, at the time of his departure. Tyrone Tracy Jr. figures to take on the bulk of the backfield work, with Devin Singletary also in line for more carries.

Through seven weeks, Skattebo had been quarterback Jaxson Dart‘s right-hand man, forming a rookie duo that had excitement for Big Blue spreading through Gotham despite a 2-5 record.
Skattebo entered Sunday’s game with 398 yards and five touchdowns on 98 carries, plus 23 receptions for 189 yards and another score. He’s been incredibly versatile for the Giants, a catalyzing figure who can wreck oncoming defenders as easily as he can haul in pass requiring touch.
He enjoyed the best game of his young career in New York’s shocking upset over Philly just two weeks ago, scoring three times and contributing 110 scrimmage yards in the 34-17 victory.
Now, the Giants will likely have to forge ahead without him for quite some time.
