The New Orleans Pelicans are set to finalize a one-year deal with guard Javonte Green, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Green, who played in nine games for the Chicago Bulls last season, showcased his potential by averaging 12.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game.
Despite these solid numbers, Green spent the majority of the 2023-24 season in the G-League after Chicago opted not to renew his contract due to injury concerns. He eventually found a temporary home with the Santa Cruz Warriors, where he continued to demonstrate his versatility and athleticism. New Orleans, looking to bolster their depth, sees Green as a valuable addition who can bring energy and flexibility off the bench.
The Pelicans’ backcourt is already packed with talent, including Dejounte Murray,Jose Alvarado, Antonio Reeves, andCJ McCollum. However, Green’s ability to play multiple styles and adapt to various roles makes him a perfect change-of-pace option for head coach Willie Green. While Javonte Green may not be guaranteed a rotation spot, his defensive skills and athleticism could earn him minutes in a team contending for a playoff spot.
