On Friday, Joe Milton III concluded his debut preseason with the Cowboys in Dallas’ victory over the Atlanta Falcons. In the dominant 31-13 win, Milton had a solid showing after a tumultuous first two preseason games earlier this month.
In the triumph, Milton completed 10-of-his-18 pass attempts for 132 yards and a touchdown without throwing an interception. Milton also picked up 33 rushing yards and a score on four carries in the ground game.
With the Cowboys beginning the preseason 0-2, Milton has faced criticism from fans and analysts alike. The former Tennessee standout completed just 55.3% of his pass attempts for 265 yards and a touchdown, compared to two interceptions, in the Cowboys’ two preseason losses.
Milton, who is known for his powerful arm, particularly came under fire for throwing the ball too hard for his teammates to catch it. Earlier this week, Milton swatted away these accusations.
“I don’t understand why people say I throw the ball so hard. I’m literally not throwing the ball hard,” Milton said. “It just comes off my hand like that. I was born and blessed that way. If you think I’m throwing the ball hard, you shouldn’t be in the NFL .”
This season is Milton’s first with the Cowboys. The New England Patriots traded the 6-foot-5 QB and a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Cowboys this offseason, in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick.
