The Southeastern Conference (SEC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Year was established in 1987, and Katrina McClain was the first player to win it. Fast forward to the present, and Madison Booker was the most-recent winner. There have been many players who have won the award, and like the other awards, there are Phoenix Mercury ties. Nikki McCray won the award in 1994 and 1995, and she played for the Mercury in 2004. She signed a deal with them after spending two seasons with the Indiana Fever. Before that, she started her career with the Washington Mystics. She was one of the players they received through allocation, and in her rookie season, she averaged 17.7 points, 3.1 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals.
