‘Mid’ review for Titans offense

First-overall pick Cam Ward‘s first few days of practice have taught him about the differences between the collegiate and professional games.

He’s thrown some interceptions and consulted with the teammates who have snagged his passes. After a couple of padded practices, he’s realized the Titans have plenty of work ahead of them.

“I think we’re very mid right now,” Ward said Wednesday of the state of the offense, adding he needs to lead the Titans’ offense to better results.

“At the end of the day it all starts with me. I just don’t think we’re at where we need to be, but we’ve got a little bit of time.”

Ward’s selection didn’t include the usual fanfare that follows a No. 1 overall pick, and it’s clear the Titans will need the full runway afforded by training camp and preseason to get their feet underneath them prior to their Week 1 game against the Broncos. But it’s not without effort or accountability, as Ward demonstrated Wednesday.

Checking in on Saints’ QB competition

There’s a three-man QB competition underway in New Orleans between Jake Haener, Spencer Rattler and second-round rookie Tyler Shough. The two veterans impressed on Wednesday with the long ball.

Healthy Burrow feeling himself during camp

Over the last few years, training camp has consistently been a challenging period in the Bengals’ football journey.

Joe Burrow has spent a couple of them dealing with health issues, including returning from a torn ACL in 2021, a ruptured appendix in 2022, a calf injury in 2023 and a wrist injury in 2024. For the first time since his rookie season, Burrow is embarking on a new season without any causes for concern.

According to Burrow, he’s already reaping the rewards.

“Best I’ve thrown in years,” Burrow said on Wednesday of his performance so far, via FOX 19’s Jeremy Rauch. “Excited about where our team’s at.”

Much of the Bengals’ potential in 2025 rests in their offense’s ability to light up the scoreboard. They’ve invested heavily in their passing game with lucrative extensions for Burrow and receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, and while they continue to work on a deal for edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, they’re going to need unheralded members of the defense to become key contributors in order to maximize their opportunities.

Until then, Cincinnati knows the offense will be responsible for carrying the team. That starts with Burrow, who seems to be ready for the challenge.
