The Washington Commanders have been without star quarterback Jayden Daniels for the last two weeks. That’s come with mixed results, but now it looks like Daniels is back and ready to hit the ground running.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter appeared on Get Up on Thursday morning. There, he shared that Daniels is now practicing without restrictions. He’s also been cleared by doctors. So, the expectation is that he’s able to play against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
“Back at practice in full yesterday,” Schefter said. “After missing the last two games, he’s now set to start Sunday against the Chargers. Again, this is good news for Washington. Marcus Mariota stepped in, won one, lost one. But the doctors in Washington have cleared Daniels now, and he is expected to be out there on Sunday.”
Daniels initially went down in Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers. He would have to get an MRI on his knee, which would later be diagnosed as a sprained knee. There had been some initial hope that he could be back sooner. However, Washington made the decision to exercise an abundance of caution with their second-year quarterback. Then, on Wednesday, Schefter reported that Daniels had been cleared medically to return to action.
In place of Daniels, Washington had been turning to Marcus Mariota, a veteran backup. They won over the Las Vegas Raiders and lost to the Atlanta Falcons during that stretch. Now, the Commanders are sitting at 2-2 and are already two games behind the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East standings as Daniels gets ready to return.
