Jermall Charlo Trying to Get Back on Track

By Arthor Rooks, Boxing Contributor

After a tumultuous two-year hiatus, Jermall Charlo is ready to reignite his boxing career in the co-feature of Saturday’s PBC card at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas. Once heralded as one of the sport’s brightest stars, Charlo faces veteran Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna in a 10-round bout that could mark the beginning of his resurgence.

Despite being a heavy favorite, the stakes are high for Charlo, who has struggled with personal challenges, including a public divorce and mental health issues, during his layoff. With his last major victory dating back to 2020, Charlo knows that his performance against LaManna will be scrutinized as he sets his sights on future blockbuster fights.

Now competing in the 168-pound super middleweight division, Charlo is embracing a fresh start, with potential matchups against Caleb Plant and even Canelo Alvarez looming on the horizon. “I want to be more active, prove I’m the best in the world,” Charlo stated in a recent interview.

His focus on improving camp strategies and his determination to reclaim his place among boxing’s elite have fans intrigued. As he steps back into the ring, all eyes will be on whether Charlo can shake off the rust and demonstrate the explosive skills that made him a two-division champion.

A win on Saturday could pave the way for a thrilling showdown with Plant, setting the stage for one of the super middleweight division’s most anticipated clashes.
