Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones offered a strong vote of confidence in head coach Brian Schottenheimer on Friday. He praised his first season at the helm, all while striking a far more measured tone when discussing the future of defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus .
Speaking to reporters in comments shared by The Athletic’s Jon Machota, Jones labeled Schottenheimer’s debut campaign an unquestioned success. Despite the Cowboys facing adversity throughout the year.
“He’s had an outstanding year,” Jones said. “He’s technically as sound as you can draw up. We like really his philosophy of how to play football. We’ve had some adversity this year, he’s met it head on. … Bottom line is, I’m very pleased with his first year as coach.”
Jones highlighted the workload Schottenheimer has shouldered. He noted that the Cowboys’ head coach has balanced play-calling duties with navigating injuries and other setbacks for the franchise.
