Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones and star linebacker Micah Parsons are at a standstill in negotiations on a contract extension. One of the key issues in the standoff has been Jones’ reluctance to work with Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta .
In a sit-down interview with ESPN ‘s Stephen A. Smith , Jones reiterated that he had a “very, very strong negotiation” with Parsons earlier this offseason. He added “there’s not room for a third,” a direct jab at Mulugheta.
“In the spirit of not doing the old mother-dad deal — how many times have you seen the old rascal, so clever, go in there and mama told him, ‘No, you’re not going to get it.’ And goes to daddy who only sees him after 5:00 in the afternoon and wants to love him and says, ‘You can have it, son. You can have it before dinner.’ And he goes back in and say, ‘Mama, daddy said I can have it.’ So, mom and dad have been around since the beginning of time,” Jones said.
“I’m not going to go for that shit here. That’s what’s happening. … I’m not going for it. We’ve had a very, very strong negotiation. By the way, frankly, it wouldn’t have made a difference what the negotiation was. Guess who has to be comfortable for this to work? [Micah], and who else? [Me]. Hell, there’s not room for a third. There’s not room for a third.”
Jerry Jones spoke on contract negotiations with Micah Parsons.
“Frankly, it wouldn’t have made any difference what the negotiation was. Guess who has to be comfortable for this to work? … There’s not room for a third. This will be a good one.”
