The New York Jets shared some good news about Justin Fields , who suffered an injury during training camp on Thursday. The team announcedthat Fields sustained a dislocated toe and will be day-to-day. The veteran quarterback avoided a serious injury, which was feared since he was carted off the field.
The injury happened during the final rep of the first team period when Justin Fields threw a pass to rookie tight end Mason Taylor . After attempting the pass, Fields favored his right field and limped to the sideline.
After practice, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn gave an update on Fields. “I don’t know the severity of the injury,” Glenn said. “I do know it’s a toe on his right side.”
The Jets have Tyrod Taylor as the backup quarterback, and Glenn is confident he can get the job done if Fields were to ever go down with a serious injury. “Tyrod’s been in this league 14 years. With the leadership he brings, we’re all good,” Glenn said. “I think the most important part is that if anything does happen to Justin, I don’t think there’s any dropoff as far as what we want to do when it comes to play call.
Justin Fields signed a two-year contract with the Jets
“They’re very similar when you talk about skillset, that was very enticing to us. And the things we heard about him, I played against him before, and you could just tell the players really gravitate to him when he says something. He’s been around this league a long time and he knows what it takes to win, and he’s a really good person.”
