New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn announced Wednesday that quarterback Justin Fields (concussion) will not play in Sunday’s Week 3 road contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Veteran backup Tyrod Taylor will start in his place.
“He’s still going through his [concussion] protocol. So, he’ll be out,” Glenn said.
Fields suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of New York’s 30-10 Week 2 defeat to the Buffalo Bills this past Sunday. The back of his head slammed the turf at MetLife Stadium after getting taken down by Bills defensive end Joey Bosa . Glenn said Monday it would be hard for Fields to play if he didn’t practice before Friday.
Justin Fields unable to play in Week 3
Fields had one of the best games of his career in the 34-32 Week 1 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had one of his worst against Buffalo. Fields completed just 3-of-11 passes for 27 yards, and his 1.1 QBR was the worst in any game of his career.
