Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is expected to start the Week 14 Monday Night Football home game against the Philadelphia Eagles, per Omar Ruiz of NFL Network. Herbert, who underwent successful surgery seven days ago in Los Angeles to stabilize a fracture in his left hand, was listed as questionable coming into the game.
Herbert took part in a pregame warmup at SoFi Stadium and appears ready to go. He is, however, wearing a padded glove on his surgically repaired left hand. Trey Lance will serve as the backup as he’s done all season.

Perhaps surgery would have been enough to sideline a player for at least one week. Not Herbert, who maintained all along the plan was to play Monday.
“Yeah, that’s the plan. To prepare as if I’m going to play,” Herbert said this past Wednesday. “We’ll see how the next couple of days go. I’ll do everything I can to be out there for the team and for the guys out there.”
Herbert sustained the injury in the first quarter of last Sunday’s 31-14 Week 13 home win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn hit Herbert on a scramble. Chinn’s helmet connected directly with Herbert’s hand. Herbert initially stayed in the game before exiting. He missed nine plays before returning.

Herbert, 27, has thrown for 2,842 yards, 21 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on 66.9% passing. The Chargers are 8-4, the No. 6 seed in the AFC.
