In a dominant homecoming performance, Keyshawn Davis crushed Argentina’s Gustavo Lemos in just two rounds on Friday night in Norfolk, Virginia. Fighting in front of a roaring crowd of 10,568 fans, the 25-year-old Davis (12-0, 8 KOs) showcased his explosive power, forcing the referee to halt the bout just 1:08 into Round 2 after Lemos hit the canvas for the third time.
Davis set the tone early, landing a crisp right hand that sent Lemos sprawling to the mat. Moments later, a devastating left hook floored Lemos again, and a punishing left hook to the body followed by a brutal right uppercut sealed the deal. Despite Lemos’ significant weight advantage, having weighed in 6.4 pounds over the 135-pound limit, he was no match for Davis’ precision and speed, landing only 24% of his punches compared to Davis’ 52%.
Keyshawn Davis, an Olympic silver medalist and rising star in the lightweight division, left no doubt about his readiness for a world title shot, confidently declaring his ambitions for 2025. Reflecting on the first knockdown, Davis said, “I didn’t know that right hand would put him down, but I did hit him flush right on the chin.” With this emphatic victory, Davis is now setting his sights on a potential showdown with WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk.
The win not only extends Davis’ unbeaten streak but also solidifies his reputation as one of boxing’s hottest prospects. As for Lemos (29-2, 19 KOs), who has now suffered back-to-back losses, the fight was a harsh reminder of the unforgiving nature of the sport, as he struggled to compete despite coming off a controversial decision loss earlier this year.
