San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is a “long shot” to play in the 49ers week two game against the New Orleans Saints this Sunday, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed on Wednesday.
Purdy, who is dealing with a toe/shoulder injury, passed for 277 yards and two touchdowns in San Francisco’s season-opening 17-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Along with most likely missing Sunday’s game, Shanahan said it could be a multi-week injury for the former Pro Bowler. He missed two games last season and signed a five-year, $265 million contract extension with the 49ers this offseason.
The news of Purdy’s likely absence comes days after ESPN ‘s Adam Schefter first broke the news on Monday.
“ Brock Purdy has a left shoulder and a toe injury that now leave him uncertain for Sunday’s game in New Orleans,” Schefter said in an update he repeated while appearing on ‘ Monday Night Countdown ’. “If Purdy cannot start for the 49ers, Mac Jones would be in line to start. It sounds like that that will happen. Kyle Shanahan wants to see how the practice week goes for Purdy.”
