Lamar Jackson is dealing with a hamstring injury suffered during the Baltimore Ravens’ 37–20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. His status for this week’s game against the Houston Texans is now very much in question.
On Tuesday, Brian Wacker of The Baltimore Sun reported that Jackson is “likely” to sit out in Week 5, and Wednesday’s practice only added to that speculation. According to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, Jackson did not take the field, marking a troubling sign just days before kickoff.
Unfortunately, Jackson’s absence could be more than a one-week issue as well. Wacker also noted that Jackson may miss two to three weeks with the injury. For a Ravens team sitting at 1–3 and in need of a spark, that would be a crushing blow.
Against the Chiefs, Jackson wasn’t playing like his usual self, even before suffering the aforementioned injury. He completed 14 of 20 passes for 147 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, while adding six carries for 48 yards before leaving in the third quarter.
If Jackson can’t go on Sunday, backup Cooper Rush is expected to take over, per ESPN. But beyond this weekend, his availability for Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams is murky. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero provided more context earlier in the week, emphasizing both the severity of the injury and how Baltimore may manage it.
“Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson’s status is up in the air for this week’s game against the Texans because of the hamstring injury that forced Jackson to leave Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs in the third quarter because of a hamstring injury,” Pelissero said.
