Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown exits loss to Packers with ankle injury, could miss time

Detroit Lions star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown went to the locker room with an ankle injury and was ruled out early in the second half of Thursday’s 31-24 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said after the game he did not expect St. Brown’s injury to be “long-term” but that the receiver could miss some time.

“I’ll know more tomorrow,” Campbell told reporters. “I don’t feel like this is long, long-term, so that’s the good news. But that doesn’t mean it won’t be here for… It could be a week or two, maybe, if we’re lucky.”

St. Brown exited with 6:19 to go in the first quarter. The Lions wideout was engaged with Packers safety Xavier McKinney when teammate Trystan Colon-Castillo inadvertently rolled up on him from behind. St. Brown walked off under his own power but was noticeably limping.

St. Brown is a two-time All-Pro who led the Lions coming into Thursday with 75 receptions, 884 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns. He left Thursday’s game after being targeted once with no catches, and was ruled out early in the third quarter.

The Lions are already without tight end Sam LaPorta for the remainder of the season due to a back injury. Losing St. Brown would be a major blow regardless, but one compounded by the previous departure of LaPorta, likely leaving wide receiver Jameson Williams and running back Jahmyr Gibbs as quarterback Jared Goff‘s top targets. Williams already had a touchdown catch Thursday at the time St. Brown was ruled out.

Now, the Lions wait to see just how serious St. Brown’s ankle injury is.
